Albany wedding venues with the best light

Couples tour Albany wedding venues thinking about capacity charts and catering. I tour them thinking about where the sun will be at 6pm. Here is my honest read on four local favourites.

Washington Park Lakehouse is the easiest yes in the city. Ceremonies on the lawn face open western sky, so golden hour lands directly on you, and the park’s trees give portraits a soft green backdrop ten steps from cocktail hour.

90 State in downtown Albany is the opposite problem and I mean that fondly. The room is dark and moody, which photographs beautifully once the candles are lit — but steal ten minutes at sunset and walk two blocks toward the Hudson for the brightest portraits of your day.

Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia has the river lawn, and river light is generous light. Overcast days, which October hands out freely, look expensive here: soft, even, no squinting.

The Desmond is the practical pick — everything under one roof when the forecast turns. The courtyard works for portraits in any weather, and getting-ready rooms with real windows beat ballroom fluorescents every time.
