When to book your Albany wedding photographer

The most common question in my inbox, after pricing, is some version of: are we too late? Here is how booking actually works for weddings in Albany and the Capital Region.

For a Saturday between May and October, most established Albany wedding photographers are booked nine to twelve months out. Peak fall dates — the second and third weekends of October, when the Hudson Valley colour turns — often go first, sometimes fourteen months ahead.

Winter and early spring weddings are a different market. January through March dates in Albany can still be open three or four months out, and some photographers, me included, price the off-season to match.

As for what to send first: your date, your venue if you have one, and roughly how many people. That is genuinely enough. I reply within three days, and if your date is gone I will say so plainly and point you at photographers I trust.

One more thing worth knowing — I take twelve to fifteen weddings a year, on purpose. When those are gone, they are gone until next season. If your heart is set on an October Saturday in the Capital Region, the best time to ask was last autumn. The second best time is today.
